I've been wondering what to do with my Harry Potter books (which I bought used, which now feels great). I can't really send them on to my great-nephews, as planned.

As a mom of a trans son...I think you could make these books into heirlooms. Start by writing a 'teaching' letter to your great-nephews and tucking it under the front cover. Teach them well and ask them to add their own letter for the next generation...and so on. Now THAT's an heirloom.
Excellent idea.
May I suggest allowing the nephews to read them with an eye towards criticism? Help them see that her bigotry is evident even in the first book written decades before she went mask off?
I love this idea. Today I would have appreciated learning about antisemitic tropes as a child, both those in the books and beyond. I know there's other stuff in there, but just that one thing would have meant a lot to me
If you've already bought them I wouldn't worry about it. Keep them if you might want to read them again, otherwise toss them. It's not a lost Dead Sea scroll, not every book needs to be preserved.
I have a lovely compost bin. Her books are asparagus now.
As a trans person let me say: dont give them those books. We dont need another generation growing up with their cruelty. Give them Ursla K. LeGuin or K.A. Applegate or Kenneth Opal or any of the many modern authors. Find a subject they like and a book that celebrates it
Or the Worst Witch series, which is where Rowling stole a lot of her ideas from in the first place
Or! Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynn-Jones, which is appropriate (some people need ‘appropriate’) for kids 9+
That's an excellent suggestion 👏
Lloyd Alexander is good! Lots of great choices out there!
💯
She has your money, she doesn’t need more from your niece and nephew. The books are lovely in themselves even if the last herself is of dubious moral compass: pass them on to your GNs with the appropriate caveats.
The dubious moral compass of not wanting young lesbians to be castrated.
Nobody wants young lesbians to be castrated. What on earth prompted this insane assumption? Is this what terfs really believe? Insane.
These are the same idiots who believe kids are using litter boxes at school.
It is, but unfortunately we’re in a vacuum and this person isn’t going to change based on what anyone says. They need to go out into the world and say it to someone offline who will say, to their face, “No, and let’s unpack this”.
Nobody wants you here, GC troll, go back to the Twitter sewer with the rest of the scum
Ah, no, the ‘dubious moral compass’ is of using her platform to bully Imani Khalif when Rowling has no medical expertise and has no interest in women’s sports, and is hiding behind her keyboard for safety. Trans people are not a threat to women, it’s hysteria.
Trans men aren't lesbians. They aren't being "castrated." You sound insane.
Whoops. Autocorrect got me—‘last’ should be ‘lady’. 🙃
CenasDaFaba ‘s account is creepy and weird . Just a few following, no posts, just a lot of weird , creepy replies. This is the type of account I block.
Yeah, free speech is one thing but they’re clearly using social media to say things that they know aren’t okay to say in public and with no accountability they’re going to continue to struggle—hopefully not dragging more people down with them. Thanks for the reminder not to engage! ✊🏻
I put mine in recycling and through out all of the paraphernalia.
Mine work well to hold windows open
I have a fireplace. They would make a great starter.
Book burning is always the sign of the right side
Just fucking burn them, they aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on
