100% On another note, the history of East Asians in Africa is fascinating. For an easy introduction watch The Last King Of Scotland and handsome young Denzel's Mississippi Masala.

Another good book relating to this "The History of Burning" by Janiki Oza
Mississippi Masala directed by Zohran Mamdani’s mom, Mira Nair!
I just learned that a few minutes ago and poof mind BLOWN. What a family!
mississippi masala was directed by mamdani's mother, mira nair
Seems almost biographical. It came out about when Zohran was born & she met his dad when she went there to research it. Just truly fascinating stuff. Couldn't help but wonder how much was inspired by her husband's life
She also directed "Monsoon Wedding." 😊
It was a Monsoon Wedding And the old folks wished them well You could see that Ranjit did truly Love the mademoiselle
Seriously? That's so awesome. I had no idea. Thank you for telling me.
Just watched Mississippi Masala last night! I love learning about this history. I watched the Last King of Scotland years ago but don't recall anything about it. Such a fascinating, rich, heartbreaking history. Also, goddamn! Denzel 🔥
Hey, know what? I just learned a minute ago that Mississippi Masala was directed by Zohran Mamdani's mom. What a family!
Mississippi Masala is GREAT and super educational. And as an aside, has a great cast & soundtrack.

TIL that the director of Mississippi Masala is Zohran Mamdani's MOM!
There are books about Indians in East Africa too. I reviewed this one written by Anna Greenwood and Harshad Topiwala on Indian Doctors in Kenya several years ago: academic.oup.com/ahr/article-...
Both terrific films...
