It’s almost as though universities have been taken over by a class of soulless executives who loot their public institutions for perks and salaries

Yeah, this stinks. I was "restructured" out of a uni during a cost cutting exercise where the VC was on a salary just shy of a million. And he's not the highest paid.
Quelle surprise.
Almost but quite
The increasing divide between uni admin & researchers/academics has been very noticeable over the last 25 years. It used to be that a senior researcher/academic could quite easily walk into the vice chancellery & discuss ideas with the VC or a DVC. That access has been cut by many layers of admin.
It's OK to spend 5 million on consultants when you say you need to cut 100 million for reasons
And isn’t the whiff of Woodside a little strong at Monash, Curtin?
So inappropriate! And their reasons for this rort are just BS. Not good enough!
$800000 for refurb of an office in Perth for Julie Bishop. How many staff salaries would that alone pay?
As if managed equity has gotten into the university game.
“My ability to count beans makes me the perfect candidate to run an important institution that relies upon creativity, understanding and a wholehearted commitment to learning, education and contributing to the country’s cultural growth….”
It's time university executive salaries are reduced to a common-sense level. Proportionally, what they were paid 30 years ago. Paying VCs as if they are running a large profitable corporation is ridiculous. Especially Chancellor, which is largely a ceremonial role. /1
Most VCs are paid more than the PM. Do they have a greater responsibility than he does? NO. Huge salaries obviously attract the wrong sort of people. Those largely interested in money and prestige, not the institution under their care.
Um, yes. Of equal importance is the focus on income. I'm nostalgic for the days when universities existed to actually educate people.
Yes, it kind'a does.
since time began...
No, it is much worse over the last 30 years since ‘economic rationalism’ became the goal of executives and included huge wage rises and a power grab.
Cancer. The US has terminal cancer. The tumors are eating us.

No problem has ever been solved by paying managers more.
There is always the problem of the second holiday home

Cuts for thee but not for me.
Yes. And makes me spitting mad. Sack the lot of them and keep the teaching and research staff, l say
The answer to this is, obviously, more consultants
Only consultants have the nous to unravel this complex problem
I see what you did there...

Well said. Mind you, show me a "not for profit" and I'll show you an organisation being run for the benefit of these types.
Just modern managerialism, since the 1970s or so. Doesn't matter if it's private, public, military, whatever. Get up the ranks and rape'n'pillage the thing for all it's worth! The fuck off when it all goes to custard and repeat somewhere else.
Naturally one of the 4 Parasites @kpmgaustralia.bsky.social is providing 'advice'. When will folks understand these overpriced PowerPoint experts have little to no sector specific knowledge or expertise. Their recommendations rarely exclude cutting staff.
"Almost as though..."? 😆 They have no passion for learning or research, they milk local and foreign students for fees without worthwhile content in teaching or courses. Skilled tradie shortage from killing off TAFE, universities unrealistically expected to fill the gap with job-ready graduates.
Universities used to be respected places of higher learning and research. Entitled modern administrators enjoy seven figure salaries, simply for being figureheads. In the meantime, staff and courses are cut, student fees and debt expand. A country which doesn't value education is doomed.
Virtual learning
And these people complain about paying tax and welfare payments but very happy to spend their "working" life exploiting government resources that they loudly despise.
Once again, the pursuit of wealth is ruthless and undermines all forms of goodness for goodness sake
Let’s hope at least that they convinced a few of the cream of US academia to come to Aus
