And what did Trump do when he saw Gov. Pritzker's uncaveated opposition? Lash out verbally, but back off the threats a little. Maybe he'll try to send troops later, but isn't right now. You can hear some clips from Pritzker's speech in this episode of the Daily Blast with @gregsargent.bsky.social.

This is how you handle a bully. They are cowards underneath all the bluster.

@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social People that are paying attention are noticing that if you simply say NO to Trump, it stops him. Maybe not forever but it does level a glancing blow. He is like a RUMBA vacuum that keeps bouncing off the walls he runs into and turns the other way only to bounce into […]

There is a real risk, certainly, but as with most bullies it seems like if you DON'T fight back, he inflicts harm. If you DO fight back, consistently, it ends up no worse than if you didn't and often ends up better.

as i said, it's still the right thing. i know what i'm talking about, i grew up fighting a violent father. i just think it's also important to be aware that the wins aren't sure, to avoid frustration when it doesn't always work.

I have to wonder if Trump is looking at the Guard deployment to DC, where he doesn't have the same constraints on what he has the guard do, there are a million Federal buildings, he can order the DC police around and they're picking up trash, mulching and looking bored at a train station...

If they DID send the guard to Chicago and a court limited them to what they had in LA (guarding federal buildings, protecting federal officers), there are like 5 big Federal buildings and no border to guard, so they'd REALLY be twiddling their thumbs here.

Sadly Trump can easily override those constraints thanks to the little known "I do what I want" loophole

It depends. They put the restrictions on them in California and they (mostly) obeyed them. It wouldn't surprise me if the same pattern happens elsewhere (district judge temporary restraining order on the whole activation without permission from the governor, stayed except for limiting their scope)

I can assure you that nothing is going to look like government waste more than two dozen bored guys standing guard at each of our 168 post offices.
