Do we have many documented instances of Ru CIWS intercepting aerial or missile threats? Or to put it another way is the system bad or just the Ru Navy? IIRC the same system is on Indian and a few other nations' boats and I can't help but wonder if they have had success or is the system just bad?
AK-630? Maybe someone 'borrowed' it? bsky.app/profile/jane...
Maybe the ciws was out of ammunition after shooting down some other drones.
Is there information out there on how Russian CIWS is used - how are targets identified and engaged by the operators. Given its the Russian Navy, I'm interested if the most likely cause is technical or human. Maybe the threat couldn't be engaged, maybe there was no one watching the equipment.
Do you think that was because the CIWS was turned off, hadn't been updated to track/shoot down that form of drone, bad luck, or some other reason?

"Buyan-M has a sufficient number of air defense assets. It is the AK-630M2 Duet system. The AK-630M2 Duet was created in russia in the late 2000s by combining two six-barrel AO-18 cannons mounted on the body of the AK-630M1-2 Roy system." en.defence-ua.com/news/fpv_dro...
Yeah Maybe it was painted in anti-radar paint so much it couldn't actually move? Can't see the drone being too small to register as a threat Possibly that the ship wasn't expecting an attack and wasn't at action stations?
Probably first time luck? Not expecting a new type of attack is still a powerful tactical advantage.
Wizard war continues, you make an excellent observation.
That either shows the complete ineffectiveness of their CIWS or the ship was not at GQ in a war zone.
