I wish people cared about research more - this is devastating, and it should be a bigger story.

It seems clear the goal is to wipe out research in America. Without an intervening factor, that is where this is headed.

The disruptions, reductions, and added graft imposed on basic research are going to have far reaching and deeply devastating consequences on productivity growth, making the economy more of a charnel house than it already is.

Not sure what went wrong or when to cause so many Americans to not give a damn about institutions of higher education. It’s devastating & I’m afraid it’s a lasting change. In other words, Humpty Dumpty is broken, & all the king's horses & all the king's men won’t put Humpty together again

Framing the importance of research for people's lives and health should be a priority for marcomm staff - every school has them, even our public school districts have PR people,

Also, the unis have failed to unify on this, which is not surprising given who actually runs them.

The opposition needs to change the tone on this, IMO. "Trump is a pro-Cancer gangster who is killing kids" instead of "Research is vital to public health" etc. Since this hit CA, Newsom will have something to say, and in this situation, Newsom's nastiness has some value.

It is just a typical fascist move: control the science means control what is truth, means set up your own new fascist truth.

Damn, the blatantly pretextual nature of the anti-semitism charge has worn thin quickly, but they keep using it. They don't even bother to make up a new flimsy pretext because they know SCOTUS will support them in the end.

I agree, but what is the answer to decades of low U.S. science and math standard test scores. Reading comprehension isn’t setting world records either. I hope I’m wrong, but here is just one example of recent developed nations ratings: worldpopulationreview.com/country-rank...

Bingo! He just "found" the 200 million he needs for the White House Ballroom construction. This is just more horrific news in a daily menu of horrific news. Literally, we no longer know what to focus on; it's consistent, pervasive chaos by design.

Research should be supported. It turns my stomach for the gangster-in-chief to be hiding behind antisemitism when he's been a racist since he was a slum lord in New York City. Note all the friends he has that are part of Christian White Nationalists & his comments after Charlottesville.

Gonna call you on it. You work in Texas, it’s a red state & you’re protected. “But I live in a liberal part of Texas” When Trump goes after your funding at your institution then you can post. Till then enjoy your status.

I fear research is like climate change - it's remote and doesn't have an immediate impact on the lives of most people, so it's just background noise to them. The ultimate cost in lives and quality of life will be massive, but even then I don't know if most will be able to connect the dots.

The UCLA cuts include freezing the funding of one of the world's best mathematicians, Terence Tao. Makes no sense at all. You, me and lots of other people work hard for years to make sure the NSF and NIH make the best decisions, and now some idiot with a sharpie makes vindictive political cuts.
