Today I learned I have to take college-class attendance every day.

This is a weird way to count to eleven.

Do you do this? Are you required? How do you do it? Where do you put it?

Thoughtful people taught me during the pandemic to drop my attendance policy, of course attendance is good, but sometimes it isn’t possible. I encourage it, I don’t want to require it when it puts people under bad pressure.

I only ever did for one class that is essentially a lab that is hard to replicate outside of class time, and the first word was in the title was ‘Professional’. I thought ‘showing up’ was an important first step. I still do, and attendance remains pretty good.

The times I did it (not for points) I posted a QR code and weblink on screen to a google form for students to scan and enter their student ID.

Easily gamed, but if it is some mandatory thing you have to do it is the lowest effort way, imo.

Yeah, I learned about it being ‘required’ now (?) but ‘Required’ next semester. I’m not yet sure what we’re allowed to do, supposed to do, have to do, how to report it. But that’s a good, mutually low-impact suggestion. Thanks!
