Perhaps not a moral argument but practically it reclaims it from the Far Right where it's been hijacked as a symbol for nationalis/racism & recasts it as a symbol of patriotism, which I see as different from nationalism ie a patriot supports their country without claiming its universal superiority?🤷

In the present moment the flags are being used at the encouragement of the worst people in the country is the problem here.

I agree. Don't let them have the Union or St George's flags as rallying symbols, if we're all ok with flying them then maybe they'll take to using a more appropriate symbol of their hate. It looks like a cross but it's got extra bits on the arms & there no emoji for it here.

There's a canal lock out in the countryside not far from here where someone has used actual red gloss paint to put a cross on the white painted end of the balance beam. Tempted to get some paint & add 4 extra lines at right angles to the ends of the original. (But probably won't for a few reasons.)
