DC has a disadvantage because they are not a state & they don’t have a Governor. DC was low hanging fruit for Trump. A testing ground after the fiasco in LA. A way to normalize troops on the street & claim it’s for our “safety”. Of course it’s not about crime! It’s about intimidation.
DC is a federal enclave. It isn't a testing ground for anything. DC got limited home rule only 50 years ago. Before that it was totally under the control of the federal government. Worse case DC goes back to pre-1975 federal rule, which there are people alive who remember what it was like.

Yes, I think you may be correct there. There just doesn't seem to be any utility in US Military driving around urban areas. I just can't think of any historic example where the military wandered around when there was no armed adversary to suppress.
Worst case DC goes back to pre-1975 federal rule??? Yeah... um... undoing limited home rule, which can only be done by passing new legislation... isn't the "worse case."
