That's not what Latour is suggesting. His thesis is that climate action was deemed impossible decades ago, and that is what has determined the political landscape.

Exxon knew by the 70s exactly where we were headed, then canned their research and began lying and sowing doubt. We've had thirty international climate conferences, and in the last twenty years burned as much fossil fuels as we had until then. Does that look to you as if we are making good progress?

all of the republican politicians are well aware of the climate change, they just don't care. it was the same with the electric motor. the oil & gaz corpo would buy the brevet and get rid of it.

If you haven't done the maths here it is: we can solve for climate change and social justice/global poverty. We can't do that and have wealthy people as we have wealth accumulation now. It isn't rocket science.
