Hey, hon. Don't go messing with Bawlmer's speak. Anyway, I'm going downy ocean for Labor Day and will get in the warter. (I don't do most of those, but I definitely DO say "warter" and friends of mine are endlessly amused by that.)
some of my funnest friends from college were from bawlmer and consistently left me in stitches over some pronunciations. Unlike planting you find anywhere else. Priceless actually
Oh I do “bawlmer” too. Even though I say warter and I can’t figure out what’s weird about that and why people laugh, I do NOT say “Warshington” like a lot of people do.
I’ve a good buddy originally from East bay NorCal who has lived in Bethesda going on 30 years now and pronounces it Washington. Probably because he hangs out on the reg with our Baltimore college buddies
The accent is strong in Bethesda
Did you want an r in Warshinton?
yes (damn AC)
I’m not sure how I got a half Bawlmer. I’m one of few who would say this sentence this way…
mint
I can’t do a full Dundalk “hey hon” “down the ocean” without feeling like I’m doing a classist cosplay.
Wait. Taking Water just came up and does Billy Strings sing “warter?!?!” I knew I liked him!!!
Cc @actualkatherine.bsky.social You might be amused
I am 😅
I think I have a similar accent/pronunciation, haha
I hear “Warshington “ every time and am amused but “warter” is just how the word is said.
In Muhrland?
