The person in question has always had to be personally affected by things to care. Then her view changes for everyone. She thought T's view on trans people was exaggerated until her grandchild pointed out that they were being personally harmed. It doesn't make her a good human, I'm not saying that.

I absolutely understand you. She's my mom's sister. My mom is 87 and doesn't want to cut ties with the only remaining sibling she speaks to (her brothers are genuinely awful sociopaths). Her kids all vote Dem and are convinced she's nuts. I don't hold back with her, she knows where I stand.

Full disclosure: I didn’t have any loved ones to break up with. We have a small family and we’re all Dems. Husband’s fam too. My dad is right of center and we 💯 get into it over LOTS OF STUFF, but he votes blue every time. I’d put him in a roach infested home if he didn’t.

Because she’s 86, a widow and most of her friends have died. And, as her daughter, I’m her only support. But, she has stopped yelling about the prices of eggs and all other goods since November. So, at least I no longer get an earful.
