It's really strange to get an email from someone asking what the people can really do to stand up to a fascist government while watching the Nepalese force out a prime minister and carrying out a full-fledged revolution because of corruption.

Some of them did get killed, tbh.
Yeah, a lot of us are getting killed right now.

How? I’m protesting in the streets. I don’t want violence. So I really don’t know.
Sadly. Violence is sometimes the only answer. Otherwise you let the bully walk all over you.
exactly... and to my knowledge.... no fascist controlled government has ever left willingly....
Yea. We can't peacefully protest our way out of them seeing that they are wrong and should go.
I'm so jealous.
We can do it. But we need to understand that a lot of us will get shot in the effort.

Americans love the image that we are this rugged bunch of tough guys but in reality the majority of people here especially the 2A gun nuts are cowards that hate confrontation and would rather be ruled by a dictator than fight back.
That whole image is built on fantasy consumption and while millions of Americans want to believe they're revolutionaries or warriors or whatever they're just dedicated customers.

America's mythology is built on revolution and yet, somehow, people continue to dismiss democratic movements and uprisings around the globe as something *other people* do. This could all end. We could put a stop to this nightmare. You just have to believe we can.
How does one start an uprising in the U.S. that doesn’t get busted up by big brother? Obvi you had Jan 6 but that was essentially organized by govt officials. (Not being facetious. Truly have always wondered how this could possibly go down in our surveillance state.)
I think people don't understand how much power the people truly have if we were organized. Nothing works without us. Boycott to destroy all the oligarchs. Picking out elected officials and voting for then instead of letting the dnc pick. Striking. Anything they hurts the rich.
I understand what you mean, but that is not the type of revolution being advocated for in this post.
I don't think there's only one way or means to handle this. I think it should be handled from every angle in every way possible. What I suggested are some of the non violent ways. But violence is and should be on the table too.
We learned the wrong lesson from the Battle of Blair Mountain and the Bonus Army and the Red Scares.. basically that any mass protest will just be massacred (using aerial bombardment if necessary) and that losing a job is worse than a death sentence.
I keep thinking that there will be something bad enough done by this administration where the populace will just rise up and head to the streets. But honestly I don't think that's going to happen. Perhaps there will be a trigger and people will gradually join a long-term protest. I don't know.
I think we all understand what we need to do, the problem is how do we get it started? It would help if we had a brave Democratic politician to lead the way. Bernie and AOC were on the right track with their anti-oligarchy tour, but someone like them needs to get out in the street and lead us.
NATIONAL STRIKE NOW
A big US problem is that there is no constitutional mechanism for forcing a vote out of cycle. In a parliamentary system, a govt can be dissolved, and a new vote can be called. In the US, it would require a literal overthrow of the govt. What would be the demands of a strike if we can't call a vote?
I think at that point it would be to force all the corporations to stop giving in and rolling over to Nazis. Stop paying trump protection money. Start defending the people or go bankrupt.
I totally agree with the goal! I'm just struggling with the mechanism/tactic that would accomplish it. As union organizers know, a strike without a well-defined "win" scenario is hard to make successful. And removing Trump would require a revolution, not just a strike.
And chasing the finance minister through a river. Si, se puede.
