As a victim of the marine corps Ive seen how much the drill training does on your psyche. Recruits were doing drill in their sleep in their racks, shouting "aye, sir" in a squad bay of 120. And yeah that drill from the cops makes me gag.
That's why i like this not-in-sync march. It gives hope they won't blindly follow orders
They're well beyond that. They know this doesn't matter.

the training sucks, and after you're actually in the fleet you hate to do it because it feels childish because that was for boots, but at the end of marine corps boot camp, the week before you graduate you do a lot of things without DIs, and we march silently in perfect synch it's pretty sick
3 years later you're out with your buddies walking to the exchange on base and you realize you've fallen into step without noticing as much as I hate that it is kinda funny
