As a disabled family we used Amazon for ease & convenience. We didn’t like it with how they treat their staff. Since trump we only use it as a search engine & where poss shop locally. It’s taking its toll on our health but we’re actually spending less, getting less crap and don’t have the guilt.

I’ve been doing it since I joined blue sky and found it surprisingly easy. EBay has good alternatives often with comparable prices and free postage

And resume outings to Barnes and Noble. Good for the soul.

Even better, buy local from Mom N Pop's so there are more jobs locally, the taxes benefit your area, and there somewhere else to shop instead of Walmart and all their derivatives.

Yes! I love using it at a independent bookstore to check the reviews of a book and then buy it at the store. I’m ashamed that I used to do the reverse. 😒

That’s exactly what I’ve been doing, it’s very easy, and most of the time you’re helping an independent company….

If possible, buy books straight from the publisher/author. If you are OK with ebooks, try to see if Smashwords has it, their fee is smaller than Amazon, so more money goes to the author.

Yes, I've never used Amazon, but I've done this on similar sites (like Bol). Usually the price is cheaper, because they slightly increase the price through Amazon etc to make up for the fees for listing exposure.

It's great advice. It doesn't always work. But when it does, you have the statisfaction of knowing that you didn't make that vulgar penis head any richer.

Ironically, many of the same items are on Temu at similar or lower prices (just be sure it’s marked No import charges, it’s already in a US warehouse). You just have to wait a bit longer for deliveries. I buy a lot from there now; never had a problem with them.

I've been doing this for some time. Think of Amazon as a retail library. I'd rather pay a premium than give Bezos and his ilk 1 cent. I know, because of Amazon, it is hard to shop local, but I urge you to try; it's much better for your local economy if the cash flow stays local.

We did this— at the beginning of the emergent storm ordered recycling / compostable bags from the maker’s website. And guess who delivered it, packed in Amazon boxes and using an Amazon truck?

Agreed, and I've quit buying things from Amazon. But often times, you'll pay more at the company website, and then they'll use Amazon to ship it to you anyway!

Go to Bookshop.org for books and libro.fm for audiobooks. At both places, you can designate your local independent bookstore to get a portion of the sale and none of it goes to Jeff Bezos.

Except don't use Google, for God's sake! Use DuckDuckGo! Google is ALSO part of the problem! Sheesh! But yes, I just did that this morning. I went to the company's website and started to shop there, but their links too me to there Amazon store front!!!

I've also found surprising success buying things on eBay and Safeway that I used to get through Amazon.
