Let federally legalize it NOW!!!!
Let federally legalize it NOW!!!!
I am astonished that I ever thought drinking an industrial solvent was a good idea. THC & CBD have legitimate medical applications that are easily downplayed by big pharma.
Cannabis does NOT stop HIV from spreading. The statement is wildly irresponsible and wrong. People who use THC products are still totally infectious unless they're on retroviral therapies and proven undetectable. Cannabis can only slightly influence detectable levels, which is no prophylactic.
How many people overdose on weed every year? I'm going green for life.
Both can make it possibly deadly to operate heavy equipment. Nither one makes you look smart, & pot stinks!
Hahahahahahhahahaha this is hilarious
While I am not going to argue alcohol abuse can kill, please know that long term cannabis use can cause CHS (Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome). Repeated and severe vomiting (scromiting) so called because the person screams in pain as they vomit. Not fun. So not a panacea.
Never knew anyone who got this, and I know a shit ton of smokers over many decades. Less common than peanut allergies.
Understandably. I know of them too-mostly oldies. The ER doc said that it is a “newer phenomenon probably becoming more prevalent b/c of the stronger strains of weed & the use of synthetics.” The ONLY way to rid yourself is abstinence. The people I know w/this are older GenZ’rs.
Here is a better scientific review of cannabis risks (quite well established) and possible benefits (low level of evidence). Abstract summarizes in 5-10 minutes read the principal health issues ov THC. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
Counter point 👇🏾 It can lead weight gain by way of having the munchies It can make a person laugh hysterically To the point of stomach aches It can lead a person to take a peaceful and restful nap Think twice before using it Then just use it Lol
I love weed, but with my anxiety problem, it makes me into a paranoid freak for an hour about half the time I smoke it.
We're going to need some credible sources for such HUGE claims.
Dude, the HIV thing is bogus beyond belief. Delete this shit
It's legal now. Smoke/eat to your heart's content. But stop this fucking bullshit.
We passed medical in my state and the dickhead Republicans are holding it up in the house
Helps perimenopausal GenX ladies sleep. Seriously. Best thing for hormonal insomnia ever.
Okay, that sounds a lot more plausible 😊
Cannabis does have negative side effects, depending on use. Heavy use can cause chronic nausea and vomiting. It can be addictive giving you withdrawal when you stop. Caution should always be used when taking cannabis.
thing or two about drugs and drug reactions. Blanket claims about a drug are utter bullshit, b/c everyone's biology and body chemistry is different, and reactions to drugs are not universal. Stop spreading lies disguised as PSAs. Weed should be legal nationwide, but just b/c it works for me doesn't
mean it works for everyone else. I quit drinking 30 yrs. ago, and I agree that alcohol has some rotten side effects, but again---not everyone will have the reaction to booze as I did. I became an alcoholic who got sober. Truth is what we should strive for here on Bsky. This isn't X.
Medical claims without scientific proof are bullshit. I say that even though I use a Delta 8 syrup to keep anxiety at bay, I would never post anything like this stupid meme b/c I believe in science. I'm too tired to research every goddamn claim in this meme, but I call bullshit anyway b/c I know a
I'll save you the trouble. Only #2 is bullshit. A few others are speculative or ongoing research. 7, 8, and 4 are backed by strong evidence. 5, 6, and 10 are limited trials or mixed results. 1, 3, and 9 were only animal trials. Cross out #2 and I have no problem with this jpg.
No strong evidence on medical use of cannabis ; some weak evidence. Quite good evidence on harms. Here is a recent scientific review of the topic. The abstract can be read in 5-10 min. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
It's concerning that a doctor would write such a skewed summary of that article. This is simply dishonest and bad-faith, or possibly a failure in reading comprehension.
The article clearly states that many health benefits for chronic pain, muscle spasticity, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, and refractory epilepsy are backed by evidence, but "the evidence is inconclusive on their value in treating mental disorders."
Meanwhile, most of the 'harms' are based on even weaker associations, and show up at strongly intoxicating THC levels (undefined "high THC doses"), not modest use. The abstract acknowledges "there is debate about the extent to which cannabis use is a cause of these adverse outcomes."
I know how to read and interpret a review on the effects of a drug. When a review states that a drug "may produce small to modest benefits" and at the same time can have serious adverse effects to some extent I generally don't use it. Then you are a sentient adult and you do what you want.
You conflated "small to modest benefits" with "no strong evidence." Pretty shocking from a doctor, and suggests a bias. And the adverse effects listed were specifically related high THC doses, or even overdose. What happens when I overdose on pharma meds you prescribe me? Serious adverse effects.
No. I translated "may" with "no strong evidence", as it is customary in medical review articles.
Just to be clear. You continue to stand by your claim that there is "no strong evidence on medical use of cannabis."
The only fair evidence is about epilepsy : purified cannabinoids are approved for some types of epilepsy in the US even if it is not clear if the action is direct or through the reduced catabolism of other drugs. In France, as far as I know, only one drug is approved for exclusive use under special🔽
surveillance by a specialized center. I find it extremely inappropriate if cannabinoids are used for epilepsy treatment by a medical doctor or even a neurologist non specialized in advanced treatment of epilepsy. Let alone self treatment, especially initiated looking memes on the web.
The glaucoma thing has more or less been debunked. It does lower intraocular pressure but it doesn't last, and the increase in pressure when the effect wears off can cause more damage. So the net effect may actually be worse
This is nonsense. The positive effects on IOP simply cease when the patient stops taking cannabis... and to some extent lessens over time as the patient gains tolerance without increasing dosage. IOP just returns to the patient’s baseline. There is no negative-rebound.
the fact that it "simply returns to baseline" is exactly what I'm talking about. The temporary nature is exactly why all these organizations don't recommend it. "stops taking cannabis" means they have to use it every 3-4 hours, all day, every day www.aao.org/eye-health/t...
You stated "the increase in pressure when the effect wears off can cause more damage. So the net effect may actually be worse." There is simply no evidence to support that claim.
The official stance of the AGS: “Although marijuana can lower the IOP, its side effects and short duration of action, coupled with a lack of evidence that its use alters the course of glaucoma, preclude recommending this drug in any form for the treatment of glaucoma at the present time.”
Cannabis is not a recommended or practical treatment for glaucoma. But it isn't forbidden for glaucoma patients either. Cannabis might reduce blood supply to the optic nerve, but we don't know for sure. It's just speculation. The feds should reschedule it to make it easier to study.
that blood supply thing might have been what I was thinking of in my original reply. I vaguely remember hearing that the return to baseline pressure might be damaging to optic nerve, but I can't find it and am just going to say I probably misremembered. muting thread now, ta
Would love to see the supporting evidence for point 2.... This is not Xitter, please don't spread bullshit.
For Epilepsy there is a fair evidence of efficacy. For pain and spasticity the use could be considered if a pain specialist deems worth trying. For the rest probably harms outweigh the benefits. www.bmj.com/content/382/...
While the jury is out, there is no logical reason why regular Marijuana smoking should be safe, yet cigarette smoking not be. The smoke contains many of the same carcinogens. cancer.ca/en/cancer-in...
This is so overlooked. You're still inhaling smoke, people. That isn't good for your lungs.

It’s a very healing plant. Why would republicans hate something that can heal? Sorry. Stupid question.
I smoke sometimes but weed can make PTSD worse in some people. It’s not for everyone and it’s not a cure all. It makes things worse for some users & is not a panacea
You know that dust at the bottom in the jar edges? Don’t smoke that shit, it kills.
It can make people less stressed unless you are a chronic worrier.
