They weren't asked to wear masks, they were told. And many of them are still angry enough about it that they'd welcome mass executions of all involved. It's not rational, but neither is refusing to recognize it.

The "context" we're living in is largely a result of policies that ignore reality. You can say people should be reasonable about mask requirements, and you'd be right. But if you're dismissive of the fact that many aren't, then you're being equally unreasonable.
