All of these products for doing work that are like "We added a 'companion' because that's what was missing from your spreadsheet."

When Adobe Acrobat Pro added AI, there was a popup telling how to disable it and I did so immediately, and it's never actually been disabled. It pops up OVER the PDFs I'm reading and offers to summarize them for me.

I don't want it to summarize them for me because I know why I'm reading them and it doesn't. Even if I wanted to skim I'd need to do it myself, but it's even better when it does that for a knitting pattern. How do you summarize a knitting pattern?

I am not going to try it because I don't fucking want to, but I do wonder what it would say. "Knit a sweater in your size"? "K2tog sometimes and at other times yo"? "Increase and decrease until there's a sweater"?

You know, I said "I know why I'm reading it and it doesn't," and that's true, but it also doesn't read, so there's that. Based on work I've seen turned in to me, you can ask an LLM to search for specific things within a document and it still just generates probable information and quotes.

There really does seem to be a sharp divide between humans who like when someone or something is ingratiating and humans who experience full body disgust at the same.

Bring back the 18th-century idea of "puppies," but pick a more loathsome word for it.
