Putting aside that Australia is getting screwed on this deal (900 FT staff at NWS only), near zero royalties and ALP's switch to reintroducing Gas too et etc - this is a bit like saying "Oh let's sell Israel & Russia weapons, because if we don't they will just buy them off someone else". Nope.

Yes, the PRRT has been way too generous to gas exporters. I would not be surprised to see this tightened significantly this term.

Here's NOT a 'perspective', but an article based on actual facts & analysis. ALP have had power for a full term this time & several terms since 2005. I think you're kidding yourself if you think they are suddenly going to do the right thing on any of this. theconversation.com/australias-l...

No not actual analysis - it's a puff piece, very conveniently ignores EXPORTS which is over 3/4 of our contribution to global warming. As per OP there is almost zero benefit to Australia from NWS expansion, no extra gas for us, no lower prices, no royalties - your article ignores ALL of that too.

I continue to be amazed at how gullible people are (particularly ALP diehards). ALP (& LNP) managed to distract them all with a bun fight over Nuclear vs other/etc & made everyone focus on domestic use only while ALP continue to accelerate exports which is where MOST of the damage is being done.

Some inconvenient facts - energy transition booming under Labor. Stunt free. #auspol cleanenergycouncil.org.au/getmedia/f40...

Some more inconvenient facts: 40% of *DOMESTIC* use is renewables. BUT AU's TOTAL contribution is 25% domestic + 75% export. So: 40% of 25% (10%) is renewables (15%) is NOT. Totals : 90% creates emissions. (15% domestic + 75% export) 10% renewables It's basic maths - you see the problem here?

And btw - the source of this data (Nov/24) : www.abs.gov.au/statistics/i.... Shows it was actually 33% domestic not 40% so not sure how they are getting 40%. That's even worse.

And just to call out what should be an obvious point: It's called GLOBAL warming, not DOMESTIC warming. You can't have a valid discussion about what emissions a country is actually responsible for without talking about their global contribution.
