People largely don’t like Isaac (which is hard to hear because he’s kinda me)… but I feel like he shows some growth in this new book.

Revealing ourselves through our writing is always a risk, though cathartic, and can help us grow as much as the character grows. It wasn't until shortly before his own death that my father confided that he experienced anxiety & confusion in crowds, much like my own, and it then made sense
that his frustration and anger at my response to them was seeing his own feelings made public. I was dealing with them more openly & honestly than he did, where he masked them, viewing it as weakness. I was able to show him how I navigated through crowds & looked for exits.
