Strikes me that, well, it *was* 'normal' for them. Hell, maybe Maxwell is not exactly lying when she says she didn't see anything that she found inappropriate. Sounds crazy, but I do think evil people usually believe what they're doing is somehow for the good. Gotta rationalize it to live with it.
