The Venezuelan people are perhaps the most “woke” (complimentary) people you will ever meet. Many are disillusioned with Maduro but realize that the rightwing alternatives are far worse. They have living memories of extreme poverty and are extraordinarily proud of what Chavismo accomplished.
This is much very much a “cut of the head and 10 grow back” situation. You can kill Maduro but you’ll never kill Chavismo. Whatever gusano the US govt installs in Venezuela would be run out within a couple of years.
The spillover effect will be massive—other countries in Latin America will universally oppose an invasion of Venezuela, and the countries with rightwing govts will be demolished in the elections that follow. Some center-left govts will become fully communist.
