I think it's politicians beholden to focus group brain and consultant brain in service of their own ambition which can be PARTIALLY ATTRIBUTED to where the money is at fundraising time. But the incentives are much more widely distributed and complex than just donations.

Or they know who pays them and will act accordingly. Occam's razor, man.

These donors don't even widely agree, let alone agree in lockstep. It's complicated, not simple. 🙂
