Ford is a bad example but your theory is sound. Trump could be appointed by the Congress if any of the candidates fail to reach the minimum number of electoral votes to make them President.

Yes a bad example. Jd could run for pres, with trump as vp, JD step down, and trump becomes Pres, appoints JD as VP. Elect him as speaker and have Pres and VP step down, shuffle it around.

No, actually he can’t. The 12th Amendment specifically states “no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.”

Then you’d have to take out the President and the Vice President at the same time. I think you’re grasping at straws. The most likely scenario is a Republican Congress appoints him to the office due to an electoral tie. Or, he just refuses to leave.
