Online purchases are also an accessibility thing, but I must state, you underestimate how omnipresent VISA and Mastercard are. They are Debit and Credit cards. There are places that no longer accept cash at all. There basic necessities that require cards to even pay for.

They are only handling the credit and OPOS portion of your debit card. Local transactions around here, even with a card, use things like Interac and such. It's easier to have localized payment processors. Thus competition. It's the global giants and online ordering that's an issue.

As far as accessibility goes. If someone *needs* to order things online using these payment processors, I understand that survival is more important than making a point. But for those of us that can go without it, we should.

My point isn't "We shouldn't complain because we use these services" My point is that you shouldn't let one slide while protesting the other, just because one of them is a more convenient target and something easier to give up. It's a very selfish and half-assed form of activism. Go full send.

To those who are international, and beyond the borders of the United States, If you can take such action, I am with you. But within these borders VISA and Mastercard and occasionally American Express are the only real viable options for card payments.

As far as I know, I haven't heard anyone complain about American Express. So that may be a viable avenue if a nearby bank offers their cards. If not, then yeah, best I can offer is at least minimal usage. I'm personally trying my best to refrain from using the Visa part of my card.

Well if there is something I can certainly agree on. It's avoiding using them to the best of our ability. Avoiding them completely, that's a near impossibility here for me. But I will certainly be taking action to avoid using them whenever possible.
