I was inspired by your bit on Ringed Castle to listen to the chapter. I discovered all my books with the old narrator were nowhere to be found, so I used a credit on the new RC audiobook. The narrator nails so many characters' voices, including the difficult Lymond. But I quibble with Phillippa?

Interesting take. I don't normally listen to audiobooks as I prefer to "hear" as I read, but had listened to the first three of David's LC where he does a very fine job. Don't think I've heard his RC, so I'll have to order it and see if I agree.

I hear the narrator doing a good job on the faint clinging bits of Hexham in her voice, but, to my ear, the performance leans into the difficult bits of her character- the whiff of the busy body. I don't know if it hits anyone else that way. Maybe I'll try Checkmate and see if it clings.

English is not my mother-tongue, so maybe that's why I'm not as affected, but I seem to remembersomeone else on the DDS FB mentioning that they don't like her "voice".

I have no comparison for the other narrator, so I kind of took voicing heron board. 😊 I also have the kindle & paperback editions for Lymond (I have only discovered Dunnett a few years ago, but am kind if obsessed ;)
