“It’s time for a comprehensive national civic uprising” says David Brooks, the same man who called student encampments against the genocide “hate-filled and bigoted.” It’s been time for some years now, David, but hell, better late than never.

Truth, Omar! People are waking up, but the truth has been in our faces far too long to have been denied.

There was plenty of hate and bigotry amongst the anti-Israel protestors. You can easily oppose what Trump has done without being a Hamas advocate.

You cannot oppose a right-wing authoritarian regime that cloaks itself in religion as it defies the law in service of its commitment to harming minority groups towards which it is openly, violently racist, and simultaneously support Israel. Not if you want to have consistent principles.

You don’t have to be a Bibi supporter to have opposed Hamas’s October 7 invasion or to have blamed Gaza’s leaders for Gaza’s condition. That’s like saying, “Trump’s a bad guy, so therefore I’m going to support Tren de Aragua.”

It’s clear America needs to reckon with its fucked political system, but to in order to do that and not arrive at this exact same point you must be able to understand the problem and the way the Democrats walked hand in hand with Republicans to get here.

Thinking pragmatically… you could put your energies into lobbying for voting reforms such as rank-choice voting. This could encourage the growth of minor parties and independents. It’s crazy you don’t have many options to choose from in America.

He's got plenty of Dem company agreeing with him daily. "[I consider myself] on the rightward edge of the leftward tendency—in the more promising soil of the moderate wing of the Democratic Party." - David Brooks, 2017 (we know that that "soil" is full of toxic and racist manure)

Only because he says the Trumpists have moved the republican party too far to the right. He calls himself an "exiled republican."

He aims to give the Democratic party tailoring such that it fits his (still) Republican politics, along with Lincoln Project, MeidasTouch, The Bulwark, and others who also wish to continue destroying political parties in the U.S. with their mealy-mouthed 'moderation.'

The terms "moderate" and "centrist" are vacuous. They mean nothing. How can we tell when a policy is moderate? Are there any principles at work? Nope.

I guess I stopped paying attention to him years ago. But he has supported Republican policies and positions for most of his career, with the typical deceit. There is no shame in public life anymore. link.motherjones.com/public/30899...
