Retired English teacher here. My score is similar to yours. I've found Grammarly is good for basic spelling and grammar. It catches most of my typos and helps with clarity & editing. 🙂 However, it incorrectly corrects complex, grammatically correct sentences. And it hates parallel structure. 😕

A journalist friend told me he had to stop using it as the corrections changed the meaning of a lot sentences to things he didn't intend at all.

I have to proofread what it “corrects” because what your friend describes has happened to me. It’s not terribly sophisticated. When I'm in a hurry and don't proofread what’s been corrected, I’ve regretted not taking more time.

As a student who doesn't remember ever once having a grammar class in my overcrowded public school, I agree. Hijacking text as you write it seems low.
