I really wish we included the context here. I live in Edmonton & these kinds of headlines make it seem like EPSB did this for bad reasons. They didn't. This list was from the prov govt & it was leaked. EPSB decided to maliciously comply & ppl are angry & directing it at the prov govt, as they should

The prov govt is now in damage control. Edmonton has been at odds w the prov govt for a while as we refuse to vote for the UCP, here. If Alberta is the Texas of Canada, we're the Austin of Alberta here in Edmonton (usually). The province has made it their mission to punish Edmonton

(and Calgary, to an extent) because last election we got rid of the only two UCP MLAs in the city. Calgary also gave the boot to a few as well. Since then, the prov govt has done everything they can to destroy our current city Council.

They're changed the municipality funding model meaning less $ to municipalities, they've forced more police officers onto our streets, we've even now got ministers working to stop bike lanes being built in the city. The prov owes Edmonton a lot of money & just refuses to pay it.

They've forced municipalities to accept political parties in our municipal elections. EPSB has been a target as well.

This malicious compliance is perfect. I applaud EPSB.

Malicious compliance is a bad frame. It is compliance with a clear provincial regulation. It is no more malicious than driving the speed limit in a playground zone.

I disagree. This was done very quickly and with the leaked list...the provincial govt is upset they complied, therefore, it's malicious compliance *to the letter* to ensure ppl know what's going on & who's responsible.
