Absolutely! There's a reason I only listen to the same bands and songs, I literally add at most 5 songs/year to my playlists. I need to know how a song goes to be in a creative "flow state"!

I've found that I technically CAN do work and listen to new music but the music doesn't fully get the attention it deserves. If I try and do work and listen to a podcast it takes me 15 minutes to write a sentence and the sentence sucks

my problem is I just end up focussing on the music only especially if it's something like hip hop that requires paying attention to the lyricism for full value

Funny I recall that from high school. I could do math with music but not a chance with writing. Different brain process.
