You're right, and that reflects badly on me. In my defense the relative lack of visibilty and representation meant that I simply wasn't aware of the issue. Now I do care, deeply, that the right wing have decided that trans people are a legitimate target, and oppose that persecution. Trans rights!

I didn't care about trans people that much, and then all of a sudden, right-wing free-thinking consumers did, but not as people but as issues they falsely made them to be. I will never not care about trans people again.

I was far more uncomfortable in the women's room than anyone has been beside me in the men's. The end goal is "trans people stay home" but idgaf, they start making it illegal for me to piss in the men's, I'll piss in the ladies, beard and all.

I played rugby with trans folks *20 years ago* and no one gave the slightest shit about it.
I could have quite possible played rugby against trans women 25 years ago. But I didn't give enough of a shite about what genitals the opposition had to enquire.
I still don't care at all. I only care that their rights are now being violated. One of the youtubers I really enjoyed watching was trans before I followed her and I could see from old content how much happier she was after transitioning.

Exactly. And that pivot happened right after they lost their fight against gay marriage. They don’t care about trans people or gay marriages. They care about having a wedge that will scare enough bigots into handing them power so they can rob us all.
and their first attempt (bathroom bills) was a flop so they pivoted to trans women playing sports and found the right wedge Gavin Newsom admitted outright that the sports issue made him reconsider, meaning he got duped in exactly the way his opposition wanted

It was a flop because they've been doing them for years and they were failing even in heavily right wing areas. Once sports opened the door for building support, bathroom bills could use that momentum to actually succeed.
Children's sports are way easier to make up misleading statistics about since no one actually pays attention to them.
Nobody is "duped" on this unless they want to be.

Nah - that's part of the thing, all this "trans people are in the loos" has _been_ happening... and there was no problem. It's like if I went on a campaign going "If women can hold credit cards, the economy will crash!" and no-one went "Hang on, women *have* credit cards already. It's not new."

"Trans people have been around your whole life" AND YOU DIDN'T KNOW. They didn't care, it wasn't a topic of discussion, like they didn't exist and we just invented them. I've been lucky to be exposed to a rich variety of people as a kid, all their lives mattered, with their differences and struggles
I don't care who I'm sharing the bathroom with; I'm in there to pee. They're in there to pee. I'm concerned with not getting it on my shoes, washing my hands and making sure I don't have a boog in the mirror check on the way out. That's it. Anyone with an IQ over 70 should feel the same.
In deep honesty and solidarity: there was a time around 2000 when I was familiar with gay and lesbian friends but encountering trans people hit a lot of gut-level unfamiliarity buttons. What I did was lkok inward and grow up and learn stuff and treat my gut as the place where all the shit goes.
I was the same the first time I met an out gay man (who was rather camp). I was uncomfortable, especially when he gently flirted with me. I realised very quickly that it was very much a ME problem (causes in part by societal expectations), and not anyone else’s. I got over myself after that.

The kindest sales reps I’ve ever met, was trans. She was very sweet- unlike some of the gay male reps who belittled me for not knowing how to contour makeup. It was probably 15yrs ago, and I still think about her and how she made me feel more comfortable. She can use my personal bathroom anytime. 🏳️⚧️
This idea of 'sharing bathrooms' with trans people suggests that we all collectively squat over a pit to do our business. There is such a thing as cubicles!!!! I have been in women's changing rooms all my life. Most people get changed v quickly and hidden by a towel. No one is flaunting their vag.
And there is the irony of the transphobe-in-chief´s visits to beauty pageant changing rooms in order to "ins-pect" the "beautiful women"🤮...

In my first ever office job (mostly corporate cishet money men), nearly 2 decades ago, someone came out and started transitioning while I worked there. She took a few weeks off, we all had a small trans awareness training session, then she came back... and nobody cared or made a drama.
It was the first time I or many of the people I worked with had ever met a trans person, and everyone was basically like "oh ok, we call her X and she's a she now, cool". Insane to think how far backwards we've gone since then. Hope she's doing ok out there wherever she is.
Oh my god, this! I tell my cis-women friends exactly that and they reply "but I don't want to see a penis in the changing room". It doesn't matter they haven't seen one in their whole life.
