Gov Newsom isn't anti-LGBQT! He has merely spoken out against allowing trans-women to compete in women's sports. That's a position that's supported by 2/3s of Americans. Ideological purity re fringe issues isn't going to help Dems win elections. www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...

He took a transphobic stance, then double-down on it. Based on your stance, both voting rights for Blacks and gay marriage were merely “fringe issues” to be ignored & sorted out “later”. That Pew study also showed that 55% of Dems do NOT agree with discriminating against trans athletes.

Graph which shows that most Democrats support trans rights across-the-board, including trans athletes. Unsurprisingly, this graph shows a slight decrease following years of mainstream media’s amplification of the right wing’s culture war on trans people. These shifts reflect changing views among both Republicans and Democrats. For example, 79% of Republicans now support making it illegal for health care professionals to provide medical care for a gender transition for minors. This compares with 72% in 2022. On the same question, 35% of Democrats now express support, up from 26% in 2022. (These figures include independents who identify with or lean toward each party.) As was the case in 2022, there are wide partisan gaps in views of trans issues. Republicans are much more likely than Democrats to express support for policies that limit protections for trans people (by margins of 43 to 50 points). In turn, Democrats are much more likely than Republicans to support policies that safeguard trans people (by margins of more than 30 points).

Hi Maud. I am aware of his strong LGBTQ record, including standing up for trans kids. It’s very admirable. So why did he stop standing up for them recently, and throw trans athletes under the bus? When you said “this isn’t true?”, to what are you referring? www.yahoo.com/news/gavin-n...

Maybe so. We both know he knows right from wrong, and that’s the leadership I want to see from him. Not that rightwing bigotry.
