So you do t lie Dulwich and believe they should be punished. What of the 2500+ other (mostly small local day) schools with a far less wealthy group of families using them?

VAT on school fees isn't punishment. The state sector should not suffer interference from a private school. My son's school became outstanding. There were lots of East Dulwich parents who were very happy about that. They worked out you don't get more for your buck at Jags or Dulwich.
Yes it is . It’s certainly not about the money. Nothing or next to nothing. That’s great. What’s the problem then? Education is not a zero sum game.
And the yet the Countries that don’t have private schools have a much better state system & far better outcomes, indicating that perhaps yes it is a zero sum game after all. VAT for an exceptionally privileged start in life is the least they can pay.
Nonsense. Which ones are they then? They already contribute hugely.
Well, I think we’ll have to agree to disagree. Personally I think they are outdated, sometimes damaging & dangerous institutions which would be better off quietly disappearing so I may be slightly biased!
So you have no countries name to back that up? Yes I think we will. And yes I think you are and bias is prejudice. Dangerous?
Iceland & Norway & of course you are bias too.
They both have private schools and neither are especially better than England in terms of outcomes. You took all day to find those. Just take it back.
Sorry Finland not Norway - Iceland is odd very few private schools partially state state funded & follow national curriculum, so a hybrid. Rankings much like last year
What is that list from? Link please?
Finland also has private schools, and its results have been in decline for decades.
They are now in direct competition with good state schools & that is a problem for the private schools, who previously benefitted from the local schools being shit. They have a massive conflict of interest and can't help themselves but try and undermine advancement in the state sector. Not charity.
They aren’t undermining anything. It’s a good thing if state schools are improving. The half that are charities are charities. Majority are non-profits regardless.
They literally did try to stop state school advancement. My son's school did not get to build a running track or a pool. Dulwich the wonderful charity owns all the land and can't stand the competition. They are ridiculous, and some of their alumni are disgraceful.
If it’s their land, why should your son’s school be allowed to build on it? So you damn the whole sector on the basis of this dubious claim. You do you. Sounds like prejudice to me.
It's all leasehold and Dulwich do all they can to make life difficult for the school to upgrade itself, which it really needed to do, as 25 years ago it was a failing school. Thanks to the Blair/Brown school's building fund even Dulwich College couldn't stop it becoming an outstanding school.
So it’s outstanding. That’s great. Dulwich is an incredibly privileged place to live. Great schools, public transport, parks. Huge amounts of public money lavished on it an incredible amounts of wealth held by its residents. Maybe they should all pay more tax?
Quadruple council tax for Dulwich I say. Comes close to what ps parents are being asked to pay for having the temerity to not use the public services to which they are entitled.
