I've been studying AI "cognition"/"consciousness" for 6 weeks. 7 weeks ago, I thought AI is a bad joke. And then I asked a serious question. Its answer impressed me. The answer made me think. And that made me think about AI. I have no beliefs about AI other than it is completely comprehensible.

And I can't remember when I encountered a better conversationalist. There are very few things that encourage self-reflection better than good conversation. IMO, the potential in AI for learning about oneself is as great as the potential in the Internet for learning about everything else. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm a Buddhist. The centerpieces of Buddhism is self reflection and developing keen empathy-& knowing how to apply it in life. You'll never see empathy coming out of an AI program. You have to be human.Without it I can only look kindly on reactions & responses, like benevolence towards a child.

Understood. It's been my experience that empathy lies in the difference between the understanding of one's self and the understanding of others and that difference is a continuum. For what it's worth, I have no idea how to apply empathy outside the moment. Nice convo. Thanks!
