A resort village in Northern Egypt was built in the shape of a menorah 🕎. The design has sparked outrage in Arab media. Let's be honest: a menorah-shaped village shouldn’t provoke this much anger.

It sounds like exactly the kind of place that is interesting enough to make me want to visit, and I'm absolutely not a resort kind of person as a rule

After all, Jewish history in Egypt stretches back millennia to thriving Jewish communities in Alexandria and Cairo, which have left behind synagogues still standing today. Maybe it’s less about the menorah and more about unease with Jewish history still being visible in the region.
