Took out my phone after credits started rolling in the theater and within seconds a guy from some rows behind came up and tapped me on the shoulder to ask me to put my phone away. I obliged because whatever, I can wait a sec and it clearly mattered to him, but… I feel like credits means that’s ok??
Credits is fine, they can live and let live
depends on the theatre and the context if its an arthouse/revival theatre showing a Special Engagement and the house lights stay off, Id say just wait until you're out of the theatre if the house lights go on then its just a popcorn cinema/multiplex, then no one should expect purity of experience
yeah, house lights 100% are the rule of thumb imo
Whoa, that’s some nerve. Even at the Drafthouse, the most anti phone theater chain there is, credits = house lights up and phones can come out.

Depends on the film. So many big films nowadays have mid/post-credits bits, so I’d wait until then final end or leave.
I’ll vouch for the people who consider the credits part of the film and prefer to watch them reasonably purely. Not that it ever really ends up that way, but I can always hope. (This is part of the reason why I don’t talk about a movie until I leave the building.)
Whoever they were, the act of getting up and talking to you was a bigger disruption to their time than the phone light was Pretty goofy and arrogant behavior
