Because shows the overall effect it has on their society. Obviously a nation with 300 million people losing a million would recover faster and handle loss better than a nation of 4 million losing a million people. Decimation means losing 10%. Not a new concept.

And then when the war was over and the world divided up by the victors, Poland doesn’t even get a seat at the table and is surrenders to the Soviet Union to become a communist shit hole. Thankfully they survived that too and are now a better place to live than Russia, the UK, France or the U.S.
