Why couldn’t they torch the Constitution and the rule of law in service of something nice like the Metric system?

If you can apparently tear down entire institutions, why not private health insurance? If you could rewrite the rules, why not remove lobbying? Why is one side cheered by their fans for making things worse, while the other gets booed by their supporters for trying to make things better? Politics.

Ironically, that would actually save the US government and people a few billion a year due to having to convert for both imports and exports given that most of the rest of the world uses metric... and it's also technically the official system of the US as well.

Do we still bother paying federal taxes? It's going direct to Elon Musk which doesn't seem fair.

Yes, but I made sure this year to review my payroll deductions to ensure I don't get a refund next year and instead will certainly owe some. No more interest -free loans of my money for them!

The federal government is the issuer of the currency, it spends money into existence thru appropriations, any taxes collected are destroyed, since once a dollar pays a tax, it's no longer a dollar. Prepaying taxes was never a loan, it was just you paying ahead of time into a tax, it funded nothing.

@legaleagle.bsky.social I don't think they can even do basic math. I don't see them switching to the metric system. It might be too liberal for them. They're likely going to make adult diapers and wipes cheaper. Trump diaper changes are cheaper for him. Unless he's sparing no expense on tax payer 💵

With any luck #Canada will invade. And, as someone who has traveled extensively in that wonderful nation to our north, I've already got the 'k to mph' conversion down. Thinking that the speed limit was 100mph and not 100Kph was a mistake. But also the best way to get through New Brunswick.

Canada uses imperial. Go to any house being built in Canada and look at the tape measures of the contractors. They will all be in inches.

Legal Goose @legalgoose.bsky.social

Ya.....our tape measures have metric on one edge and imperial on the other. I've never seen a tape measure with only one, even outside of Canada. Imperial is used basically in cooking and some building (and even then official things like regulations still use metric) Everything else is Metric.

Honestly not sure exactly because I don't remember the last time I weighed myself. But somewhere around 64-70.

As someone who was raised in a metric household (my dad was a big fan - and oddly, not a commie), you can be glad that you run into repeating decimals less frequently than we do. I mean, just in case you wanted to feel good about SAE measurements.

Americans will use anything to measure something in order to avoid the metric system. "How far away is that?" "About 6 blue whales and a giraffe."

Question. (Off-Topic) It is illegal to aid a criminal. Trump winning the presidency made all federal indictments go away. Could we prosecute any person who voted for him? Assuming we find post/data showing they knew that would happen if he won.
