Couldn’t read the story, but it’s possible the baby was too young to vaccinate, in which case the grieving parents aren’t to blame but rather the parents of the increasing number of unvaccinated children who spread it to unprotected, vulnerable ones.

The mother was responsible for this, or perhaps her ignorance.

Pregnant women are offered the vaccination if they hadn't been vaccinated as a child. It wasn't about the baby being vaccinated, it was about the Mother passing on her immunity.

Whooping cough immunity from vaccine or infection is fleeting - we were vaccinated as kids, MY kids were all vaccinated & hubs got it twice, eldest daughter once (as adults). It should be given to ALL pregnant wmn regardless of their own vaccine history, given the current lack of herd immunity.

Actually, it should be offered as a booster to anyone of any age every 4-7 yrs.

It is offered to all pregnant women in the UK. You were the one talking about the baby being too young. Many vaccinations are offered to adults because a lot of people don't know their own history.

I see now that the lower part of the headline does mention the mom’s vaccine status - I hadn’t even read it, just tried to open & read the whole thing. IDK why, but it’s not offered here during pregnancy, & getting an adult booster is challenging in general in BC.

This platform is international, I don’t live in the UK & in BC Canada pregnant women are NOT offered a pertussis vaccine, so my assumption without being able to read the article, was that the baby was too young. Hope that makes sense. Thank you for the clarification.
