Every Virginia Democratic Governor in modern era won as moderate It hasn’t broke out of light blue shade All that is to say Virginia is different than NYC So a function of politicians responding to electorate Dems need flexibility in who they run depending on race www.wsj.com/politics/ele...

Affordability and cost of living is a huge platform for both candidates. I don’t see how Spanberger is a moderate when talking about the same thing Mamdani is?!? Why get we all just support both!?! I’m proud to have both on my side!

Mamdani works not just bc of policy but bc he is authentic and comfortable in his own skin. He’s talking to ppl like he would without cameras. Abigail Spanberger is also like that. She’s doing a great job bc she knows Virginia. She’s also walking the walk, helping with VA11. A leader does the work.

Horrible framing for this article.

I think ideology is important to some degree, but I also fervently believe that in this race it basically doesn't matter who the Democrat is if the Republican is Earle-Sears. She's not Ed Gillespie and it isn't 2017; party polarization is a more useful metric than candidate ideology

Maybe Miyares would have had more opportunities at the top of the ticket than Earle-Sears to attack on ideology, but I think this year would have been a wash for the VAGOP regardless; Trump's presence in the WH makes it difficult if not impossible for the VAGOP to win

It's worth remembering that Youngkin only won by two points in an atmosphere that was pretty anti-Biden against a candidate who made several embarrassing gaffes; I don't really think someone like McClellan or Carroll Foy would have lost and I know they wouldn't lose this year either

Sure but moderating between what now? Trying to find common ground with MAGA reminds me of the Dril ISIS tweet. Beating Sears should be a cakewalk and yet the race seems strangely competitive right now.

I don’t see her as anti-Mamdani. We’re in two different places. Period. You are correct.

💯 How is talking about affordability anti-Mamdani? They are both talking about important issues their own way. Also, F Wall St Journal - they couldn’t identify a good thing if it smacked them in the face. They should focus on how there has been ZERO soybean orders from China bc of Trump.

I am sick of voting for Democrats who actively run against my values. And no one who says “blue no matter who” should be publicly opposing leftist candidates who won their primary.

Spanberger isn’t even just “moderate”, he’s outright conservative on labor and environmental issues, refusing to repeal right to work laws and refusing to support data center reform, both of which are wildly out of step with Democratic voters (and even GOP voters, who support land conservation)

Repealing Right to work doesn't work in Va, Northam didn't try to repeal either and polling suggests in Va they prefer leaving right to work law as it is. Each state it is different, but don't forget Virginia was a red state not too long ago from 1964 to 2008 the voted red prez before obama

Comparisons to the past don’t quite hold up because the Trump regime has laid bare the utter failings of capitalism in a way that hasn’t been seen in the past. Views that used to be considered far-left fringe are popular and mainstream now.

I’d disagree with this. There’s a real hunger among most Democratic voters for an ambitious progressive platform, and the fact that Spanberger holds only a very narrow lead over Earl-Sears of all people confirms that enthusiasm for Spanberger’s centrist views is quite low.

Whenever DNC leadership thinks they're behind, they rush to appeal to right if center voters who won't switch ahd leave far left voters not wanting to go to the polls. It's they're core principle.
