The same in the UK Farmers voted Leave their immigrants workers left, now the Leave voting Farmers cannot get anyone to work in their fields and UKs food prices have sky rocketed But, according to many in the UK it is not the Tories (blue) who gave us Leaves fault, it is Labours (Red) who didn't

How did that come about, where it became Labour’s fault?

Labour inherited it when they took parliament earlier this year but the entire idea of Brexit was built on a lie, and rather than over rule the vote the Tory government at the time chose to run with it and make it work. However as you can see it really hasn't. Being someone who voted to remain...

(Me) makes it interesting to watch it unfold for the UK because you have to ask the question "what happens now?" To the current government. And to be honest they seem more ready to blame the previous government than to find a solution to the problem judging by their overall performance

Thank you for explaining more about this. Was the lie that the UK would be better off - more competitive, wealthier, out of the EU, or was it something else?

It was built on mostly lies (see attached picture for the 10 reasons). The actual vote was nearly a 50/50 split down the middle of the UK with 51% in favour of leaving and 49% in favour of staying. More money to the UKs NHS was promised but then immediately backpedaled on the day of the result

The guy campaigning for leave, quoted himself on the side of a bus stating more money for the NHS but then in an interview the day after said "that wasn't me at all" even though this picture (see attached) was clear. To sum it up the entire thing is a mess.

Which the current government (Labour) have now inherited after the conservative party remained in power for a further 8/9 years after the vote. That's why people say that Labours inherited Brexit, because they're now currently in parliament and now run the country.

After the 31st January, Boris Johnson struck a deal with the EU where the UK would just leave, with no deals made. Fast forward to today and there have been some deals made but it's not like how it used to be. Britain is not European anymore, which is highly unfortunate.

I think I recall reading that - people assumed the EU wasn’t serious about the agreement and thought they’d be able to renegotiate. Honestly, it seems a terrible decision.

He was a proven liar. The problem was that very few of the electorate could be bothered to do the research to make an informed decision. They were too bone idle and instead, merely parroted the opinion of their favourite politician. That said, the EU is almost too big to understand.

There was still no reason to leave the EU though like. If it ain't broke, don't fix it and it wasn't broken at all

Could have made exactly the same argument for not joining the Common Market in the 70s. Democracy is not about maintaining the status quo; it is about reflecting the voters’ views whether informed or not. I’m not arguing the right or wrong of the decision, just my own logic and research.

And we never sent that amount of money to the EU. Let's face it the Leave voters wanted to be conned, they wanted someone to blame for their lack of progress so the poor voted Leave and blamed immigrants. The rich just wanted to avoid the new EU Tax Laws

Some of this is coming back to me from reading Carole's work during that time. Aaron Banks rings a bell... As far as the 51/49 split, I always felt that there was undue influence from the Leave campaign, which had shady funding, some of which made its way into the '16 U.S. propaganda machine.

They had everyone convinced that if we left the EU then we could close the borders and stop immigration which was never going to be the case

For me it was sovereignty and I accepted there would be an economic cost. To be candid, most people didn’t research jack and just voted as their favourite politician told them to. The result is down to Boris and the Tories screwing up every opportunity and grasping every possible failure.

Whist you compose you answer I quote Mrs May the Day she announced to Parliament she had triggered Art 50. 'We never lost Sovereignty whilst in the EU, even though it sometimes felt like it'

Andrew @andrewgowen.bsky.social

Again, an opinion; this time Mrs May’s opinion. We did lose sovereignty. We could not vote to increase food regulation above the EU levels. There’s a simple example. The EU would have taken us to court under the fair trading regulations and set aside our law.

Explain the extent of the European Union; what does that mean? This is a “piece of string” question as both answers depend on the personal view of the subject.

Andrew @andrewgowen.bsky.social

My personal view of ‘sovereignty’ is that my vote and the votes of my fellow citizens, exercised by our Parliament, should be sovereign and not subject to alteration or negation by an external parliament.

I would vote for ”YES” if we were offered the 1970s Common Market as an option and I would vote for”YES” for membership of Schengen but the vast, unfathomable mystery of the EU needs to be clearly explained before I would vote to rejoin.

Not for me to explain to you Andrew, I voted to remain in the EU. As a person who remembers what it was like for the workers in the UK ( I started work in 1969) before we went in, and knowing my working wage and rights had benefitted from being in the EU, I voted to stay.

I absolutely respect that view. We did lose a lot when leaving the EU; but we lost even more because of the crass and stupid way Boris, Farage and those other morons refused to positively engage in negotiations. I’m a former regional union rep myself and friendly talk is always a good start.

Leave voters For the poor blaming immigrants was their excuse for not having progressed in life, for the rich, well they wanted to avoid having to pay the new (then) EU Tax avoidance Law. The poor were easy to con.
