As an older trans woman, a number of years after I transitioned, I realized I hadn’t been misgendered in months and shortly after that, I got into a “debate” about trans people and another older woman got exasperated and asked, “Why do you care? Do you have a trans child or grandchild?”

I looked at her for a few moments as if she’d grown three heads to hen finally said, “Because I’m a decent human being and because I’m trans.” It was a jaw dropping moment for her but just as importantly, several other women were then staring at her while one said, clearly being snarky to throw it

It depends, but trans peeps are often very critical of their own bodies, so saying "wow I wanna look like you" to someone who thinks they look like trash can feel kinda disingenuous, or just make them look deeper into the things they hate about themselves. It took me years to be comfortable with it

ah, i see. i get gender envy from a lot of trans people i see online (sabre included lol) but for me it’s moreso in terms of fashion and hair styling
