Check online for growing bulbs—they make ones for normal lamps so you can at least have some herbs and a small lettuce table inside? And there are some crops that prefer shade. I don’t do much bc it gets so damn hot here and I wilt like a sissy, so I CSA it with a farm down the road 💛
Are there any vegetables that like shade? I guess I could just research that myself. And like you, I live in a place where it is so danged hot most of the day that it's hard to tend a garden. I started this season out strong with tomatoes and a flower garden, but wilted, like you, lol.
I feel you—I always have big plans in May and come July I have zero motivation to tend it. But, lettuces, greens (like kale) and herbs usually do well in shade and cooler weather! I also just ordered a small hydroponic tabletop garden…wish me luck! If I can do it inside in summer I will! 🤞
I do wish you luck! I want squash, cucumbers, and green beans. At a previous house (with about 2 acres of land), I had such a garden, that also included corn. But here, those things don't seem to like my soil, and I don't have enough land to have that big a place.
Thank you!! Our soil in Nashville is pretty rugged too—lots of clay and rocks 🤦♀️ —so even though we have almost an acre, I’d have to buy a bunch of soil and build raised beds, and lumber isn’t cheap these days!! Keep me posted if you make progress—rooting for you!
At this point, I'm just trying to decide on next summer and hoping I'll actually plan better next year! lol
