In King of the Hill we hear a lot about how growing up Hank had to witness Cotton mistreating and abusing Tilly, and how Cotton raised Hank to see women as objects. I like that Hank instead grows up to marry Peggy, a woman who values her independence + who doesn’t fit feminine standards or wants to

it's also why it only made sense for Hank to reject all the "manosphere" horseshit in that S14 episode (my fave of the batch)

to my mind, pretty excellent. episode 1 is a bit rocky bc it has to establish a lot but after that it's smooth sailing. genuinely feels like they just picked up where they left off

there's a ton of moments where Hank or Peggy will bump up against some aspect of modern chudism (the manosphere, anger over "woke" product rebrands, etc.) and basically go "wow that's pretty dumb", which is a great eay to do modern satire while keeping the tone light

but the #1 thing it nails in my mind is the characters. Hank and Bobby as adult friends is the absolute best part, and would make it worth watching all by itself.

There are multiple episodes where Hank has to wrestle with his own complicity in his father’s treatment towards his mother. I like that he has to come to terms with how saying nothing just to “keep the peace” just ends up hurting Tilly and he goes up against his dad, who he fears, and defends her.

“nine pretty darn angry men” and “the unbearable blindness of laying” deals with those themes. There’s also “escape from party island” where he realizes his mom’s obsession w miniatures, although they left him feeling confused + abandoned, were the only way his mom could cope with her abuse
