I'm sickened by KISS getting the Kennedy Center Honors under Trump. This shouldn't be political, but clearly is. I know I'm bound to read about how MAGA #KISS is, but here's the reality: Ace Frehley is MAGA while Gene Simmons is not, Paul Stanley is definitely not, and Peter Criss is a Democrat.
There have been many, many low points for my favourite band. But if they show up for this charade – as, sickeningly, seems likely – that will be unquestionably be the lowest.
I've had a hard time processing this one. Because I'm sure that they had to accept the 'honor' to ensure there was no embarrassment for Trump. They could perform in full makeup together and I wouldn't watch it. Ace is gonna be thrilled, though. He even talks up Trump at his solo shows.
I concede they're not in an enviable position. If they turn it down, they alienate lots of fans and potentially invite legal problems with Pophouse for damaging the value of the brand. But if they show up, they're endorsing—at the very, very least—a shameful denigration of what those honors mean.
KISS obviously accepted before this being announced which truly disappoints me. Once Trump installed himself as the head of the Kennedy Center, any nomination that it makes is tainted. They're only choosing artists that Trump approves of. This award should have an asterisk to note its illegitimacy.
My wife and I just had this same conversation. Whether Kiss deserves it or not, the honor is tainted by the politicization of the Kennedy Center. It’s disgusting that we can’t escape the bullshit in any part of life anymore.
Well, as an American band, they probably do deserve it, but they were purposely chosen by Trump and that's what turns my stomach about it. Trump even said that this ceremony wouldn't be "woke". So yeah... it's absolutely a political event even if it's not supposed to be and that bothers me.
Agree 100%. It’s the asterisk on the selection that automatically comes from being picked by that dickless lunatic. It isn’t fair to them or the other honorees.
