By law, former VPs receive Secret Service protection for 6 months after leaving office. Harris's expired July 21. But unknown until now, Biden, before leaving office, extended her protection for a year after that. That's what Trump canceled.

Vice presidents get Secret Service protection for six months after leaving office, in accordance with the Former Vice President Protection Act of 2008. Mike Pence's protection ended in July 2021. I don't remember anyone complaining about it.
