Once upon a time, I would have sent you to Harmony House (Rockin' Royal Oak, MI), Skool Kids Records in Ann Arbor, Dearborn Music, or Car City Records in Harper Woods. All gone now.
They have Vintage Stock in your neck of the woods? You can get new and used there.
Does one even exist?
Silver Platters in Seattle
Blockbuster? *sorry
Not sure about brick & mortar, but online you could try Critics Choice video (ccvideo) for DVD & Blu-ray.
Big Lots Goodwill
I've learned recently that Barnes & Noble has a pretty fair selection of DVDs, Blu-rays, and CDs!
I was about to mention B&N. Also when it's Prime Day/Week B&N have a 50 percent off on all Criterion movies.
That's great to know! I have been trying to do more physical media to get away from the whole "you don't own your music/games/books" nonsense lately, and I'm continually impressed by how helpful B&N has been for that. I also hear they do a lot for local communities, so that helps!
And yes I'm doing the same thing. I found a 4K UHD Blu Ray player at Goodwill for $9(!) so couldn't resist. I got my discs out of storage, inherited some others and have been buying a load of movies, particularly more obscure or non-streaming stuff. Flea markets are great for random pickups, too.
We have about 4 B&N stores in the local vicinity and hit at least one every weekend. They also sell books (obviously) but also toys, TTRPGs, Manga, comics and magazines and more.
For sure - we have way too many books at home, so we were being prudent with our visits until recently. Now, I'm tempted to weekly myself haha
We bought 3 new shelf units for the living room and they're already full. That's not including the two smaller bookcases in our bedroom with DVDs/Blu Rays. 😆
Sounds like you and I are on our way to being our own libraries haha that's our home's goal, at least! Cheers, friend 😁

I haven't purchased any in awhile but this is usually a pretty good bet www.wonderbk.com?gad_source=1...

You can also look up local record/cd/dvd stores here: recordstores.love
Rhino Records, New Paltz Water Street Market, 10 Main St Ste. 202, New Paltz, NY 12561
Walmart still has a nice selection of DVDs in the $5 barrel. Just have to spend time digging. Goodwill usually has a decent VHS, DVD, CD, and Blue Ray selection, but check the discs condition. I can never find videogames used.
If you live somewhere that lacks an independent location, Barnes and Noble.
Used book stores usually have a section. We had Bill's Records and tapes which was the place to pick up stuff that wasn't available in the US, but he died a while back and the store closed. This is a regional chain. www.hpb.com
I get DVDs of obscure stuff from Amazon.
Flea markets, thrift stores and eBay.
Amazon..... Zavii is where I often get overseas discs from (they have a US store too)
I actually a lot of cds & books from ebay now. They're cheaper than amazon and a lot of vendors have buy 3, get one free type of deals.
And thrift stores, too.
Sunrise Records?
CD Universe online is a great resource.
eBay
I Go to half price bookstore
I usually just try to seek out for used copies with whichever much smaller video stores I’m able to find. Wish I didn’t come off too vague, but I’d say to try and seek out whatever smaller businesses are available and stick to that.
(There is one I often go to called Disc-traders. Problem is that I’m not really sure if it’s available in other regions?)
In store - Walmart, Barnes and Noble, pawn shops and thrift stores. Online - EBay and ThriftBooks.

It super depends where you are but here. Theres thrift stores some really good libraries that sells an amazing selection. Some books stores, comic books stores, record shops. There's no actual DVD store but you have to know where you're looking
Bull Moose if you're near New England. But they have a great online store as well. New and used dvds, cds, books & vinyl.
If you're talking new, not sure. But most thrift shops are overflowing with used CDs, as are library sales. Most artist websites sell CDs when they have new releases....may want to check either their site or Bandcamp to see if a CD is a format they're offering. (More money gets to them that way)
Thrift shops for both, but the library for borrowing if you are needing specific artists/titles.
