Making people get a prescription for something like this is an abuse of doctors precious time. I can’t say it enough, how does one quack get to decide this stuff over real doctors??? It’s insane

I suspect that in many states it’s not that they affirmatively require a prescription but rather that they tie pharmacists’ ability to give vaccines on their own authority to some fed govt body having approved the specific shot. For MA that body is ACIP and they haven’t approved the new shot.
It’s a waste of precious resources
So MA pharmacists can’t give it on their own so a prescription is de facto needed for the new covid shot. When or if ACIP approves the updated shot (or if MA changes its law) then MA pharmacists will be able to give it without a prescription.
I also think it's dumb that women have to get a prescription to get a mammogram, given that the advice is to get one every year. It's not like the doctor is going to say "no, I don't think you should get one." But there it is--I can't just make an annual mammogram appointmen without a prescription.
I don’t remember having to get a prescription for a screening mammogram before all the cancer meds. I would just call and make an appointment, making sure it was a year on the dot or more from the one the year before.
Same with me. Just scheduled it myself every year. Of course since the cancer I feel like every doctor I have will remind me to make it as if I needed that reminder.
Since the cancer, the oncologist has done a prescription because it changed from screening to diagnostic.
They were still labeling mine as routine screening after the surgery. My oncologist only prescribed my Letrozole and the breast cancer surgeon would handle all the rest. Now that treatment is finished I am back with my pcp for mammogram recommendations. So many doctors.
All the cancer stuff.
The radiology place texts me a few months before it is due to set up an appointment.

Same I’m 🇨🇦. Odd but true. Likely decision made by men for women.
Or glasses or contact lenses for that matter. If I’m happy with the current ones I have I should have to spend the time and money to get a new prescription to get new ones.
