16 year olds, famous for having lots of official government ID with their phot on it. Can’t see how the alternatives for those that fail are going to work.

100 days out, what's the chances of a strategic delay?

Just the facts from Josh Taylor. From the start, Esafety Commish said a "layered approach" would be needed. "Meta and Snapchat already use facial age estimation technology." VPN use can be detected.

I really worry about the potential for more stored data. The govt’s position on this this seems vague. Signed victim of Optus, Medibank, Latitude, Qantas hacks.

Digging in a bit more on the report today. Interesting that Yoti, which is arguably the most mature of the age assurance companies, had a false positive rate (i.e. thinking someone was 16) of 34% for 14yos and 57% for 15yos. ageassurance.com.au/wp-content/u...

Read table on page 11 in the link in the post.

It might be advantageous for an age assurance company to be juvenile. They'd understand their targets better.

Surprised Apple and Google can’t just roll out tokenised age verification (face detection is silly)

The trial looked at that. ageassurance.com.au/wp-content/u...

Summary finding J.8.1 App-store based models are being developed but lack critical adoption and verification features. While app-store based models were the most fully conceptualised, they currently rely on self-declared or parent-set age information. Without independent age verification and without adoption by key operators such as Apple and Google, these models do not currently meet the criteria for robust age assurance

Also worth noting they've actually released the data sets so you can get a better picture of how it is working rather than relying on the spin the report puts on it. ageassurance.com.au/report/#data...
