A common misunderstanding is that HPV is only a problem for people who are “sexually promiscuous.” The truth: you can get HPV even if you’ve only had ONE partner. Its prevalence in adult populations is very high. So we vax everyone.

Please get vaccinated. I love reading PET/CTs, but it’s always sad to read exams for preventable cancers.

Literally, can get HPV from your spouse, even if you wait until married to have sex. This is a talking point I use with wavering families, who have the misperception that we are talking about promiscuousness. Encourage for all 9-yr-olds (eligible age), since HPV vac could go away in near future.

A wart on your hand is HPV. Because of all of the different strains, it’s easy to transmit and move. Thank God for a vaccine!

Exactly. A woman can be infected by her husband. She has no control over his sexual history.

I've convinced people who were dead set against the HPV vaccine with this statement. It's wild to watch the realization wash over them, even after all other very good arguments have been rejected.

I referred to it as a “cervical cancer vaccine” and my friend was like there’s a cervical cancer vaccine?? Just didn’t make the connection even though she received it

Also, it doesn't just protect against cervical cancer. There are HPV related cancers of the head and neck and rectum. Dudes get cancer protection too!

Please get vaccinated- the chemotherapy options for cervical cancer are appallingly bad, and generally not effective. The radiotherapy options are worse. It is often incurable and young women die of it. There is a vaccine that is simple and works.

Adding to this: The vaccine is most effective if people get it before they become sexually active. That's why it's recommended at age 9-12. That's not suggesting your pre-teen is having sex, but rather recognizing that they're likely to do so some time in the future.

Wish that vaccine was out when I was young. I would not have had to go through the treatments I did!
